Through our sustainable programs and certifications (such as Organic and FairTrade), we are showing that we are supporting the farmers who are looking after their workers and natural resources. In addition to this certification, we are also certified organic for both the US and the EU market.
By being a Sedex member, we form part of a group of committed businesses, sourcing responsibly and working on improving the ethical standards and working conditions within the entire supply chain.
We receive regular SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) audits. These audits are the most widely used social audits in the world and help us to asses our supplier sites, monitor the health and safety for all of our workers and signal zero tolerance of any human rights abuses.
We are a founding member of the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative (SVI). Together with all other members of SVI, we aim to promote the long-term stable supply of high-quality, natural vanilla, that is produced in a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable way.
SVI is a voluntary industry initiative which works to bring innovative solutions to the market challenges within the vanilla industry through a comprehensive strategy addressing vanilla’s complex supply chain in producing countries.
To assist us in securing the entire supply chain of our Madagascan vanilla we have established the Macky Association. It is a farmers’ association in Madagascar. Not only do we want to make sure our vanilla is traceable and sustainable, but we also want to understand the challenges faced by the farmers. By empowering them to run their farms in a sustainable way and to be more financially resilient in a volatile market, we know that the result will be better quality, guilt-free products.
We have registered all of the farmers including their production, their working conditions, their certifications, and their payments using a digital system developed by Metajua and Ecocert. This system simplifies the traceability of our vanilla beans.
