Our

Origins

Present at the source

As a backward-integrated supplier, De Monchy Natural Products is present at every step of the supply chain. It helps us better accompany our customers in their sourcing journey. Our facilities at origin, closely working with local farmers, allow us to have better control of the supply chain to provide higher quality products at a competitive price while achieving our sustainability objectives.

Our local facilities are regularly audited. It ensures a standard implementation of our food safety management system for greater efficiency in our quality assurance and control efforts.

Additionally, our teams at origin collaborate closely with our farmer communities. Therefore, we are able to receive crucial feedback on local crop and market conditions. In return, we work together to improve cultivation and production process through financial support and education. This direct influence at the source also allows us to implement our various sustainability projects to ensure a healthy and fair supply chain from farmers to our customers.

Madagascar, a historical presence

Madagascar is the first origin that De Monchy Natural Products developed in 2012. With natural vanilla being our core product, Madagascar and its unique vanilla flavors have always been of strategic importance to the company.

Under the Bourbon appellation, the island is the world’s largest producer of natural vanilla beans. Thanks to many generations of skilled farmers and producers, the distinctive qualities of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla make it a prized commodity in the food and fragrance industry around the globe.

At our Sambavanille – De Monchy Natural Products facility, we have developed a world class production center in the Sambava region to supply the world as a leading exporter of Bourbon Vanilla. Over several years of continuous development, we have made a positive impact on the vanilla production in Madagascar through the creation of the Macky Farmer Association as well as being an active founding member of the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative.

Indonesia, archipelago of raw materials

Although the archipelago is known for its rice terraces and tea plantations, Indonesia also plays a significant role in the global vanilla market. It is the second highest exporting country of natural vanilla and its derivatives, as well as a major producer of spices such as cassia, nutmeg and cloves. In line with our ambitions to remain close to the source and to our export markets, De Monchy Natural Products’ local facilities near Jakarta act as a hub for managing the operations and purchasing in the SEA region.

Indonesian vanilla has a slightly different flavor profile which makes it unique and preferred for certain applications. Varieties grown in Indonesia (Planifolia and Tahitensis mainly) have a complex but balanced flavor profile, ensuring great results in various preparations.

Uganda, land of opportunity

Uganda is a landlocked country in Central-East Africa, surrounded by lakes and mountains with a particular topography that allows farmers to cultivate many different crops, which makes its agricultural productions notable across the globe.

These unique features combined with supportive government policies make Uganda an attractive sourcing country on the global stage. As such, coffee, tea, cotton and vanilla exports from the East African nation are climbing to the top of the charts.

Under these considerations, East Africa is a natural addition to De Monchy Natural Products strategic sourcing, with Uganda at its center. Implementing our backward-integration formula in Uganda allows us to continue to ensure a controlled and sustainable supply chain to offer high quality, traceable products to our customers.
